We are seeing the rise of eco-friendly and sustainable corporate events in order to reduce the amount of carbon emissions. In November of 2021 at the World Climate Summit in Glasgow the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative was officially launched. The intention is to have the 100+ event-management stakeholders pledge and work towards reducing carbon emissions by 50% going into 2030 as well as net-zero emissions by 2050.
The Joint Meetings Industry is working hard to produce a roadmap highlighting the approaches and milestones for event management companies that achieve net-zero carbon emissions. The Net Zero Carbon Events Initiative already published a “Quick Guide to Getting Started”. The guide has sections, covering topics on communication, training, carbon measurement, and first steps for decarbonization.
